The Sanganeb lighthouse is the lighthouse erected on the southern tip of the namesake coral plateau in the Red Sea. Located about 18 kilometers off the Sudanese coast, it is an isolated lighthouse as it cannot be reached from the mainland. It is managed by the Sudan Sea Ports Corporation, and can be visited by appointment only thanks to the numerous guided tours by tour operators. The farò was built in 1906 by the British authority to signal the danger of the coral reef to passing ships. Initially it was a metal structure about 55 meters high and was later replaced by the current one in concrete. The site is
considered one of the best in the world for scuba diving for the beautiful coral formations of which it is completely covered and above all thanks to the rich underwater fauna. a large formation of anemones with clownfish is found close to the reef wall, gray sharks hovering in the blue while schools of barracudas swim by creating beautiful figures.
The site was also the protagonist of a particular discovery, a dead specimen of a rare species of bird unknown until then was found, and was subsequently classified as Hirundo perdio (red sea sparrow).
